Abstract

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), standardized in 2010, is attracting a lot of attention and is becoming a primary technology for indoor positioning solutions. Other technologies, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and RFID are currently being used for indoor positioning, but have limitations such as infrastructure, cost, power consumption, and accuracy. BLE overcomes most of these limitations and is quickly becoming a preferred solution for indoor positioning. Several types of algorithms - fingerprinting, triangulation, proximity, etc. - have been proposed or are currently being used for BLE-based indoor positioning. Among these, there is a wide range of accuracy and no common accepted method of algorithm comparison. In this paper, we analyze multiple proposed algorithms, do a qualitative comparison, and recommend the most promising method.
