Introduction
New robot designs, powerful embedded computers, sensor technologies and machine learning algorithms have achieved great advances recently. These developments constantly affect our perception on the role of robots and the way robots van be integrated in our daily lives and our businesses. Although it is commonly agreeable that robots can excel in performing simple and repetitive tasks, recent trends have been pursued that shift robotics into a new paradigm of deployment and integration. This new paradigm addresses (but not limited to ) larger workspaces, efficient information extraction via collaboration, effective human-robot interaction, and robot flexibility. Advancement of this new paradigm should evolve by targeting applications that minimize human intervention while human(s) and robot(s) optimally sharing the burden of particular tasks. In addition, implementation of this new paradigm should allow for various levels of automation and thus human intervention.
