Thank you for your application for Safety Inspector I – Public Works with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County.
In order to better assess the applications, we are asking that you answer the following questions. Please return the answered questions as a word document or pdf to Omar.DeJesus@Nashville.gov no later than Monday, March 12, 2018 at 4pm . Your response indicates your continued interested in this position.
  1. Describe your experience in researching standard OSHA or TOSHA regulations.
I must honestly mention here that since I have always resided and worked in a different region, I dealt with different applicable safety laws and regulations. However, I researched local applicable safety laws and regulations. I gained knowledge of OSHA by doing readings, and I also gained knowledge of CalOSHA, which is by far more exhaustive than OSHA and any state safety law since it addresses issues not addressed in OSHA. I even consider it as a strong reference, almost an ideal one.
  1. Describe your experience working injury on duty case management.
At Canada Metal Company (a corporation involved in metals recycling and manufacturing) where I was employed as Industrial Engineer, I held many responsibilities in occupational health and safety. Namely: every month, all employees were required to take a blood test to determine the level of lead in their blood. Those workers whose level was above a predetermined value had to be put in preventive withdrawal from the workplace (at 90% of their salary) until their level of lead went down under a lower predetermined value. It turns out that the plant was incurring high costs in workers’ compensation due to this situation. Consequently, I was required to make a follow-up on workers that were on workers’ compensation in order that they could return to work as quickly as possible. Also, I conducted accident investigations, and I was member of plant safety committee as resource person, where we reviewed work accidents and occupational illnesses (in this latter case mainly caused by blood) to find ways to prevent their reoccurrence.
At City of Beaconsfield where I was employed as Safety Engineer, I developed and implemented a safety program from scratch. I also conducted accident investigations.
  1. Describe your experience in training employees?
At Canada Metal Company (a corporation involved in metals recycling and manufacturing) where I was employed as Industrial Engineer, I held many responsibilities in occupational health and safety. Among others, I organized training sessions in occupational health and safety (first aid, CPR, hazards associated with lead (the metal), safe forklift operation).
At City of Beaconsfield where I was employed as Safety Engineer, I provided basic safety training to City workers, namely but not inclusive on safety for work performed on public right-of-way since many City workers are required to perform their duties on public right-of-way. I also implemented WHMIS (Workplace hazardous Materials Information System) and trained workers to use it.
At ASP Construction (Association sectorielle paritaire pour la santé et la sécurité du travail du secteur de la construction) (Joint association (employers / workers) for occupational health and sfety in the construction sector in Québec) where I was employed as Occupational Health and Safety Research Agent, I provided safety information to construction workers on construction sites. I wrote a series of 4 brochures on occupational health and safety for structural steel erectors.
  1. Describe your experience in enforcing program health and safety.
At Canada Metal Company (a corporation involved in metals recycling and manufacturing) where I was employed as Industrial Engineer, I held many responsibilities in occupational health and safety. Among others, I conducted plant safety inspections to ensure compliance with applicable health and safety laws and regulations. I conducted a job safety analysis. I conducted industrial hygiene studies (exposure to lead dust, carbon monoxide generated by forklifts).
At City of Beaconsfield where I was employed as Safety Engineer, I developed and implemented a safety program. I conducted work site inspections to ensure compliance with local applicable safety laws and regulations. I conducted a thorough job hazard analysis for all City workers’ duties.
