Abstract

The goal of this project is to realize a novel correlation between hydrocarbon infrared absorption spectra and autoignition properties of liquid transportation fuels. This correlation, or index, will create a competitive advantage for a fuel refiner by facilitating the manufacture of fuels tailored for emerging automotive engines. These advanced engines will take advantage of the tailored fuels for high efficiency operation, whereas current engines will continue to operate normally on the new fuel.
