Assistant Professor -- Anatomic Veterinary Pathology
Dr Barigye is an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, United Arab Emirates University. Previously, he worked as a Senior Veterinary Pathologist at Berrimah Veterinary Laboratories in Australia and before that as Assistant Professor and Diagnostic Veterinary Pathologist at North Dakota State University, USA. He attained Membership by examination in Anatomic Veterinary Pathology from the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, a PhD in Veterinary Science from National Autonomous University of Mexico, MPhil from the School of Veterinary Science, University of Queensland-Australia, MSc with Distinction in Veterinary Pathology from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, and a BVM from Uganda. Dr Barigye’s current research is on the epidemiology of neglected infectious diseases of livestock in the UAE; especially enzootic bovine leucosis and coxiellosis. In Australia, he studied cytokine expression and tissue tropism of the bovine ephemeral fever virus in cattle. Whilst working at NDSU-USA, he did research on the role of efflux pumps and membrane porins in bacterial multidrug resistance, mentored several graduate students, and taught Pathobiology and Clinical Immunology courses.
